He Supplies, Satisfies, Silences, Secures and Stills

Who’s your Lord? Do you know the Lord who supplies your needs, quenches your thirst, satisfies your longings, silences your fears and stills your storms? I suspect you have already been talking to the Lord today about how thankful you are for everything He has done for you and is doing for you.

If you haven’t read Psalm 107 in the last little while, squeeze it in today. It was relevant to the children of thousands of years ago; but it is still relevant to every child of God this very day. God is sufficient for every emergency in our lives. God is not an aloof God who reluctantly and grudgingly and skimpily dispenses good to those who beg and plead and moan and groan to get His attention. We don’t have to pound drums or dance around a fire with chants to wake Him up. He’s wide awake, fully conscious and cognizant. His beneficence (goodness) surpasses human comprehension. He is generous – not stingy. He loves – not likes. He gives – not sells. He is compassionate and caring – not curious and marginally interested. He’s sincere – not fake or put-on!

Can you relate to this?

He satisfieth the longing soul,

And filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

Psalm 107:9

Four times over in this Psalm these words appear: “Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.”

Four times over in this one Psalm this verse appears: “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men.”

I’m not a meteorologist and I know practically nothing about hurricanes. But isn’t there something about the ‘eye’ of the hurricane? Once you break through the eye wall - the most violent part of the hurricane, you enter the ‘eye’ where all is calm, even though the storm rages all around.

He maketh the storm a calm,

So that the waves thereof are still.

Psalm 107:29

When the Lord came to earth, He physically turned the wild and violent Sea of Galilee into placid and calm waters. Even though the storm of circumstances batter and pound a Christian, in the eye of the hurricane, in the depths of our soul there is a calm. The Good, Beneficent God is in control. We can close with the opening line of this Psalm:

O give thanks unto the Lord,

For He is good;

For His mercy endureth forever.

Psalm 10
